In the first 10 months of 2023, Chinese cars were exported to the Russian single market, accounting for about 17.4% of China’s overall global car exports.
According to the data, in October this year, China’s car exports reached 526,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 47%. In the entire January-October period, China’s total automobile exports were 4.24 million units, with a growth rate of 58%.
China’s car exports to Russia have increased most significantly. In the first 10 months of this year, China exported 736,000 vehicles to Russia, up a staggering 489% year-on-year, making it the fastest-growing market.
However in October this year, China exported 97,000 vehicles to Russia, an increase of 425% year-on-year. Among them, the export volume of heavy-duty trucks and tractors has increased significantly, and the contribution to the Russian market is very high.
As Western car brands e.g. Volkswagen, Ford, Citroen and Toyota have withdrawn from the Russian market one after another, this part of the market demand has been quickly undertaken by Chinese car companies. The share of Chinese car brands in the Russian market is constantly expanding.
According to the automotive industry analysis agency Autostat, in September this year, the Chinese brands Great Wall Haval, Chery and Geely occupied seven places in the top ten sales in the Russian car market.
